Using metabolic engineering, which is startingly different from genetic engineering (based on the work of Jay D. Keasling, professor of chemical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley and director of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s synthetic biology department), Amyris is able to translate synthetic biology into solutions for real-world problems. Watch for novel pharmaceuticals, renewable fuels, and specialty chemicals.
